*REVIEW* Solitary Man by Diane Benefiel

4 Stars

Sgt. Ryder Bronson blames his own actions for the death of Kenny McMurtrey, one of his best friends and fellow soldiers. As Kenny is dying he asks him to promise to take care of his wife Brenna from a possible upcoming scandal.

Brenna McMurtrey is trying to piece her life back together after the death of her husband. Before he died he sent her a flash drive that information regarding a police shooting that he believes was covered up.

Soon it is apparent that Brenna's life is in danger and Ryder knows he has to do everything he can to keep her safe. Yet when you are unsure of who you can trust in the local police department where can you turn? As Brenna and Ryder begin to get closer he backs away, feeling that he is responsible for Kenny's death.

Will Ryder be able to keep Brenna safe and will they be able to get the truth out before one of them is hurt or even killed?

I really enjoyed this book and there were a few twists and turns that kept me completely involved in the story.

I liked Ryder but completely understood why he felt so guilty about Kenny's death and why he felt like he couldn't get involved with Brenna. He felt like he should suffer for his actions. He had so much guilt inside him yet he would do anything he could to make sure Brenna was safe.

Brenna was an awesome character as she was so independent and it almost got her in so much trouble! She hated being told what to do by Ryder even though all he was trying to do was keep her safe. She had a great attitude and was so full of sarcasm!

The ending completely shocked me at how everything fell into place and I really wasn't expecting all of that! It came out of nowhere yet it made sense in a twisted kind of way!

This is the first time I have read this author and it definitely won't be my last!
